Audrey Chase
C. Audrey Giles Chase, 95, died Tuesday, August 11, at Safe Havens, Saint Andrew's Village in Boothbay Harbor. Audrey celebrated her 95th birthday on June 3, 2009. That day was marked by the presence of family and friends who gathered to celebrate and remember how she had touched their lives.
Audrey was born on June 3, 1914 in Boothbay Harbor, a daughter of Benjamin M. and Nettie (Rowe) Giles. She was the fifth child born into a family of twelve children.
All of Audrey's schooling took place in Boothbay Harbor schools. Several years ago she celebrated her 75th Boothbay Harbor High School Reunion. Summers she would work on Squirrel Island and often at Patten's Restaurant then located at the end of the footbridge in Boothbay Harbor.
On April 8, 1939 Audrey married John Chase of North Edgecomb. They began their life together in the log cabin that John had built for them.
Audrey's love of people, adventure, nature and travel led her to encounter many people. For years she drove to Brunswick to swim with her sister, Iva and the Evergreens' Senior Citizen Group. For the 70 years that Audrey lived in Edgecomb she was a key participant in the community and church activities. Audrey was a faithful member of the Edgecomb Congregational Church United Church of Christ.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Chase, one son, Daniel E. Chase, four brothers, Lermond Giles, Drummond Giles, Bobby Giles and Harold Giles and four sisters, Leta Giles Conners, Lavinia Giles Conners, Iva Giles Koerber and Peggy Giles Hathorne and many nieces and nephews.
She is survived by one daughter, Rev. Constance Chase Wells of Damariscotta, one brother, Benjamin Giles of China, two sisters, Betty Giles Richardson of West Bath, Pat Giles Adams and her husband Robert of Boothbay Harbor, one brother-in-law, Merle Hathorne of York, nine grandchildren, Alan John Wells, Jeffrey Wells and his wife Allison, Susan Winkler and her husband David, Tim Wells and his wife Kristin, Andrew Roth Wells and his wife Nina, Jonathan Chase, Tom Chase, Jennifer Chase and George Chase and his wife Sofia, eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Edgecomb Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Edgecomb with Rev. Tom Clough officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Edgecomb Congregational Church U.C.C., PO Box 113, Edgecomb, ME 04556.

Mary Alice Hirsch
Mary Alice Hirsch, age 84, died August 15 after an extended illness.
She was born Mary Alice von Buseck in Erie, Pennsylvania on May 25, 1925. She attended Millcreek High School, Grove City College (Penn.) and Central State University in Oklahoma with degrees in special education and learning disabilities.
She met her husband, Don, at a party in 1940. When the war was over, she and Don married and made their first home in Los Alamos, New Mexico, where Don was stationed. Over the years, they lived in Pennsylvania, Delaware, six towns in California, Oklahoma, Florida and Maine.
She taught in schools in Oklahoma, California and Florida. She is still getting cards of thanks from students who were failing before coming into her class that have now completed college work.
She was devoted to her family and children, postponing her career until her children were raised. She was active in church work wherever she lived and pursued her hobbies of camping, hiking, sail boat racing and, most particularly, travel, both in this country and abroad.
She is survived by her husband, Don; a son, Robert, and his wife, Kathy, of Rockville, Md.; a daughter, Susan Glass and her husband, Alex, of Lakeland, Fla; a son, Karl, and his wife, Mary, of Edmond, Okla.; a son, Don, Jr., and his wife, Mary Elizabeth, of Fort Worth, Texas; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church on Thursday, August 20 at 2 p.m. All are welcome. Contributions in her memory may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Boothbay Harbor or to St. Andrews Hospital.

Evelyn M. Bailey
Evelyn M. Bailey, 86 died Friday, August 7 at Edgecomb Green in Edgecomb with her family at her side.
She was born in Camden on March 17, 1923, the daughter of Lewis and Ruby (Kimball) Allenwood.
She attended Camden schools and graduated from Camden High School in 1942. She married Chester W. Bailey Jr. on March 3, 1948 and moved to Woolwich in 1950. She was employed at Congress Sportswear in Bath for 33 years. She last worked at Big Al's in Wiscasset well into her 80s.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chester W. Bailey Jr. in 1991 and two brothers, Maurice Allenwood and Alton Allenwood.
She is survived by one son, Chester W. Bailey III and his wife Mary of Nobleboro, one sister, Dorothy Setter of Camden, two grandsons, Sean Bailey and his wife Dorothe of Newcastle and Keith Bailey and his wife Sari of Harrisburg, Pennsyvania and three great grandchildren, Sam, Maya and Sterling Bailey.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. Burial will be at Grover Cemetery in Woolwich. Wilhelm "Bill" Ostermann
Wilhelm "Bill" Ostermann, 74, of Boothbay Harbor died August 12 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta after a long illness.
He was born in New York, New York July 11, 1935, the son of Walter and Marie Koelling Ostermann.
He grew up upstate New York and attended Troy High School. Bill was very proud of the time that he had spent at WPI. He later graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s degree. Bill married his high school sweetheart Carol Waterfield, on September 1, 1956. After serving in the U.S. Army, Bill worked at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, Conn. as a computer programmer.
After retiring to Boothbay in 1986, Bill worked for the National Park Service serving as a park ranger in Death Valley and Acadia National Parks. Bill loved to travel and working with the park service helped him do that. He claims to have driven across country 14 times. He was also a substitute teacher for the Boothbay Region school department and at one time while working at a parking lot across from the town office was known as the "Official Greeter" into Boothbay Harbor.
Bill loved spending time with his family and friends. He was very fond of the people he had met especially at the Congregational Church in Boothbay and for a time was known as the choir’s mascot making sure to get there early to hear them practice.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carol Ostermann of Boothbay Harbor; two sons, Mark Ostermann of Belgrade and Keith Ostermann and his wife Cary Hirnak of Topsham; two granddaughters, Erica Ostermann of Stanford, Calif. and Kristen Ostermann of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandsons, Will Hirnak of Topsham and Grier Ostermann of Topsham; and one sister, Louise Roberts of Troy, N.Y.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the Boothbay Congregational Church on Saturday, August 22 at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. Sarah Foulger officiating.

John M. Henry
J
ohn Murray Henry, 88, of Wiscasset, formerly of Hartford and Colebrook, Conneticut, died Sunday, August 16 after a brief illness.He was born on November 13, 1920, to John W. and Anna (Code) Henry. A 1939 graduate of Hartford High School, where he was a quarterback of the football team, John attended Morse Business College and later spent time in New York City as a professional drummer. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, and received two Purple Hearts. Following the war he returned to Connecticut, working briefly for Prudential Life Insurance Company, and then the Connecticut Natural Gas Company. After retirement from CNG he started a career as a dealer of 17th and 18th Century American antiques, first at Blueberry Hill Farm in Colebrook, Conneticut, and then, starting in 1994, operating John M. Henry Antiques in Wiscasset.
Known for his quick wit, Old World grace, and wide-ranging interests, John made an impression on those he met as a person of sharp intelligence. He had a great love for his family, for life and for learning.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte, four daughters, Gayle Falardeau and her husband James of Gilmanton Iron Works, New Hampshire, Noel Bodwell and her husband Kim of Meredith, New Hampshire, Dawn Moore and her husband Martin of Alton, New Hampshire, and Pamela Centrella and her husband Craig of Torrington, Conneticut, stepsons, Mark Winslow and his family of Pittsford, Vermont, Jay Winslow and his family of Barkhamsted, Conneticut, a brother, Robert Henry of St. Simons Island, Georgia, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Bunnell Henry and his sister, Anne Henry Ferguson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset with the Rev. John Potter officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow at his home on Summer Street in Wiscasset. Arrangements are by Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.
Stanley E. Merry

tanley E. Merry, 72, of Woolwich, died on Saturday, August 15 at the Bodwell Unit in Brunswick with his family by his side.He was born on December 17, 1936 the son of Wilder Merry and Marguerite Drake.
He worked in the plumbing and heating business for many years, retiring in 2003.
He enjoyed caretaking for several homes on his road and the people who always asked for his advice on many things. He also enjoyed hunting, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Nellie Rose of Woolwich, son Stanley Jr., of Massachusetts, daughter Valerie of Phippsburg, stepson Andy of Woolwich, three stepdaughters Julie and her husband Bob of Woolwich, Holly and her husband Dean of Woolwich, and Laurie of Wiscasset, eight grandchildren, Elliott, Cory, James, Ruth Ann, Justin, Jeremy, Devin, Jesse, sister Virginia Parlin of Augusta, several nieces and cousins.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, August 29th, at 2 p.m. at the Murphy’s Corner Cemetery, Woolwich.

Gilbert R. Morin
Gilbert R. Morin, 66, of Abenaki Rd., died Saturday, August 15, at a local hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Bath on March 19, 1943 the son of Gilbert J. and Mildred Doucette Morin. He attended local schools. Following high school Gilbert enlisted and served in the United States Navy.
Gilbert worked at the Bath Iron Works for 23 years as an assistant foreman, he then went to work for Mid Coast Hospital as a Materials Manager, where he was employed for 11 years, until the time of his death. In his spare time he enjoyed working with electronics, cameras and computers, and he liked wood working and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member of the Junior Volunteers Program at Mid Coast Hospital.
He was predeceased by a daughter Kelly Y. Morin and his father. He is survived by his mother of West Bath, former wife Joan Ross of Brunswick, two daughters Lorie A. and her husband Timothy Merry of Wiscasset, Tamara L. and her husband Kevan P. Fors of Brunswick, six grandchildren Nicholas and Timothy Merry of Wiscasset, Kody and Kristopher Davis of Brunswick, Emily Larrabee of Brunswick and Skylar Thibeault of Brunswick, a brother Gerald and his wife Sharon Morin of West Bath, three sisters Carol and her husband Edward Greene of Bath, Linda and her husband Richard Belanger of West Bath, Geraldine and her husband Richard Klein of New Hampshire, several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High Street, Bath. All services will be private. Harland Ogilvie
Harland George Ogilvie, 41, of Augusta, formerly Jefferson, died unexpectedly August 14 at his residence in Augusta.
Harland was born on May 10, 1968 the son of George E. Ogilvie and Antoinette M. (Morin) Ogilvie. He was a graduate of Lincoln Academy, Class of 1986.
He joined the U.S. Army after graduation, and served in Korea during his first tour of duty. He re-enlisted, serving in the Persian Gulf War from 1990-1991.
After his discharge from the Army, he began working as a carpenter in the Boothbay and Jefferson area.
Harland was a military history enthusiast, and liked to spend his leisure time fishing.
Harland is survived by his father, George Ogilvie, his mother Antoinette Ogilvie, both of Jefferson; his son, Harland Ogilvie Jr., of Jefferson; a sister, Marie Clark, of Westbrook, a brother, Russell Ogil-vie, of Scarborough; and a niece and nephew.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, August 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main Street in Waldoboro. A celebration of Harland’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2009, 11 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Dorr officiating.
