Harvey W. Blake
Harvey W. Blake, 85, a resident of Ocean Point Rd., Boothbay Harbor, died Wednesday, Sept 23, at the St. Andrews Hospital after a period of failing health.
Harvey was born May 22, 1924 in Boothbay, the son of Leo E. and Freda Joy Blake, and attended Boothbay Harbor High School.
On March 25, 1944, he married Geraldine Pinkham in Boothbay Harbor.
After repeated attempts to join each branch of the military during WW II, he was drafted into the Army in September of 1945, serving as a cook in stateside camps briefly before his honorable discharge.
Returning home, he began work as a welder in many of the local ship-yards, for which he worked for many years. After his retirement, he became the night manager for the Flagship Inn from 1986 to 2006.
A longtime volunteer firefighter, he was a member of the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department, and for many years was the cook for their monthly suppers.
He was known for his love of animals, having several pet raccoons among other domestic animals, most recently his dog Trixi, who he loved dearly. With an artistic flair, he was known to sketch at the dinner table, and made lamps from scrap materials.
He is predeceased by a daughter Carol Blake Orne in 2008, a grandson Michael Orne in 2004, and son in law Russell Colby.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Geraldine "Deanie" Blake of Boothbay Harbor, two daughters Cathy Blake and her husband Gary of Boothbay, and Barbara Colby of Gardiner, grandchildren Lisa Orne and fiancé Richard Hallinan of Boothbay Harbor, Teresa Bryer and Tyler Blake and his wife Lynn, all of Boothbay, and Amy Goodwin and her husband Dusty of East Boothbay. Also a brother Howard K. Blake of Lincoln, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 1, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Boothbay.

Charlotte Hodgman
Charlotte Hodgman, 85, of Wiscasset, died September 25. A resident of Wiscasset for over 40 years, Hodgman was born October 14, 1923 in Lowell, Massachusetts, a daughter of Jefferson Roberts Mansfield Sr. and Alice Wilmott Mansfield.
Mrs. Hodgman made her home at the historic Custom House on Water Street. Arriving in Wiscasset in 1965, she purchased the building at auction. As a federal building it had earlier served many purposes, including housing the local Post Office. Her renovation of the building as a residence and her place of business was admired for its sensitivity and demonstrated her talent for putting art in the service of everyday living.
With her husband, Crosby G. Hodgman of Wiscasset, she founded and ran the gift shop New Cargoes at the Old Custom House. The two also founded the adjacent Le Garage Restaurant, which is still owned and operated by her daughter, Cheryl Rust.
A lifelong artist, Mrs. Hodgman was a commissioned portrait painter. Additionally she exhibited her still life and landscape paintings at the Maine Art Gallery and Bowdoin College and taught art at the American School of Paris, France.
A graduate of Mt. Holyoke College, Mrs. Hodgman later studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School, at the Academic Grand Chaumiere in Paris and the LeoMurchutz School of Painting and Drawing in Aix-en-Provence.
She served as a Red Cross health aide during World War II. In 1945 she married Lieutenant, Army Air Corps William L. Rust of Huntingdon, Tennessee, after which the couple made their home in Lowell, Mass. She later worked in the color labs at Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge, Mass and at the Bigelow Laboratory of Boothbay Harbor.
She was predeceased by her husband, Crosby G. Hodgman, and by her brother, Jefferson Roberts Mansfield Jr. of Chelmsford, Mass.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Wilmott Mansfield of Chelmsford, Mass., her daughter, Cheryl Lee Rust of Wiscasset, and her daughter, Amba Lee Rust Coltman and son-in-law Robert Coltman of Chelmsford, Mass., and stepson, Christopher H. Hodgman, MD of Rochester, N.Y.
A private committal service is to be held at a future date in Lowell, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Dorothy L. Lewis
Dorothy L. Lewis, 87, of Deer Ridge Road, Wiscasset, died Friday, September 25, 2009 at her residence.
She was born in Wiscasset on June 24, 1922, a daughter of Edwin S. and Alice M. (Shea) Pooler. She attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset Academy in 1940. She graduated from Pellchiers Beauty School in 1941. She was married to John M. Lewis for 24 years. She owned and operated a beauty Salon in Wiscasset and later worked at Dodge Inn Dog House in Edgecomb. She then established the Calgadee Market on Route One in Wiscasset. For 23 years she was employed at the Wiscasset News Stand.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset where she was active in the Ladies Organ Society knitting various things for the Church missions. She was a 50 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Wiscasset, the Wiscasset Grange and the 4 H Club in Wiscasset.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, watching the Boston Celtics and Red Sox, knitting and playing cribbage where she usually would play regularly at the Wiscasset Senior Center.
She was predeceased by one brother, George N. Pooler.
She is survived by one son, Gary L. Lewis and his wife Mary A. of Lincoln, two daughters, The Rev. Deanna J. Lewis and her husband Jerry E. of Centralia, Kansas and Corinne A. Hodsdon and her husband Chris A. of Jefferson, 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday at The First Congregational Church of Wiscasset with John Potter officiating. Burial will follow in Wiscasset.
