How much is too much to pay for a car? Certainly, not $1. But that’s what one family, or person, will pay if selected by Atlantic Motor Car in Wiscasset to receive a completely refurbished 1994 Volvo station wagon. As if that’s not enough, the company will also service the car for an entire year.

"Thanksgiving is just around the corner – traditionally a time for folks to reflect and be thankful for their blessings throughout the year," Atlantic Motor Car owner Bruce Howes wrote in a press release last week.

Howes called the newspaper this week with the surprising news that so far only seven people have submitted nominations for who should get the car. It’s one the company has been using for several years as a loaner.

"Giving back is a key value here, and after six great years in business, we’d like to share our blessings with others," Howes said. He explained that the Volvo has been serviced by the company and most recently has had new tires and new brakes installed. The company is asking for nominations of people who are deserving of some help – "the ideal person is somebody who usually thinks of others before themselves," Howes says.

The winner will be announced on Friday, November 23. Nominations should include the nominating person’s name, address, and phone number; an explanation of why the family or person needs and deserves the chance to buy the car for $1; and the name of the family or person being nominated, along with their address and phone number.

Nominations can be mailed to Atlantic Motorcar Service, attention "Keep a Family Rolling" 10 Ox Horn Road, Wiscasset, ME 04578; or sent via e-mail to Bruce @AtlanticMotorcar.com. Nominations must be postmarked or received by Friday, November 20. The winner will be announced on the following Monday, November 23.
