Mary Louise Dozier Kennedy

Mary Louise Dozier "Lonnie" Kennedy died peacefully on Sunday, October 25 at the home of her daughter in Beverly Hills, California. Until recently, she had lived in Edgecomb.

Born on September 12, 1922, in Hanover, New Hampshire, Lonnie was the daughter of Howard D. and Katharine J. (Bailey) Dozier. She moved with her parents to Silver Spring, Maryland, during her early childhood.  She graduated from Smith College in 1943 and married Robert M. Kennedy in 1945. They lived in Holliston and Ashland, Massachusetts, from 1947 until 1985, when they moved to Edgecomb. 

Lonnie was inspired by the serenity of nature and the beauty of Maine. She always noted the ospreys’ return to their nests every April as a special harbinger of spring on the Maine coast. In years past, she and her husband enjoyed annual trips to Chesuncook Village in the northern Maine wilderness. She adored reading and was a lifelong student of literature.

She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Katharine Elizabeth Kennedy of Beverly Hills, California, and Sally Morse Kennedy of Hingham, Massachusetts; a nephew, Frederick Steadman, and his wife, Mimi, of Edgecomb; and a number of cousins.

Memorial observances will be private.

Catherine A. Greenleaf

Catherine "Kitty" A. Greenleaf, 95, died Friday, October 23 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor after a period of failing health.

Kitty was born May 13, 1914 in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Mathew and Nora Murphy Carroll, graduating from Commerce High in Worcester.

She worked at Filenes until WW II, when she began employment at the Bradley Field in Connecticut, where she met Merle F. Greenleaf. In 1946 they were married and moved to a converted school house on Rt. 27 in Boothbay, which would become their home for over 50 years.

She was an avid follower of the Boston Red Sox and Celtics. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, gardening, camping, and traveling to Florida for the winters.  Catherine was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace.

Kitty was predeceased by her husband Merle Greenleaf in 2001.

Survivors include her son James M. Greenleaf and his wife Brooke of Boothbay, daughter Eleanor A. Mavodones of Westbrook, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a sister, Josephine Perkins of Worcester, Mass., and several nieces and nephews, including Wesley Day of Des Moines, Iowa.

Visiting hours are on Thursday, October 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Simmons Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay, A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 30, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Boothbay Harbor.
