Ghosts and goblins invade Alna

The Alna Store

Alna’s second annual "Trick or Treat Street" took place on Halloween, October 31 and was a howling success this year. Approximately 100 area residents turned out to distribute treats or collect them.

Decorated cars, bikes and trucks lined up along the Dock Road Saturday afternoon to hand out goodies to dozens of princesses, ghosts, goblins, butterflies, Super Heroes, fairy tale characters, a lobster, a pickle, Luigi and Mario too.

The Alna Store hosted the event with prizes and refreshments. Gary Hayward, from Just for the Fun of It Outfitters & Guide Service, provided hayrides. A merry trio of judges reviewed the costume parade to decide the costumes of the day.

Tish Carr, Amanda Gagne and Stephen Wallace embraced the very difficult task of choosing the best costumes by age group, best costume/family theme and best dressed vehicles.

Winners included: Caleb Kelly as a dump truck (under three years); Brooke Thayer’s cave girl (four to seven years); Damon Crummett as a very bloody Scream (seven to nine years); and Colin Pennock as a working spotlight (10 to 12 years).

Best adult costume went to Ken Solorzana who was one of the "party girls" with his daughter Helena. Creative best dressed vehicles went to Blaine and Carol Kimball’s Model T all spooked out, Susan Sherman Gray’s spider cart, and first place winner Nick and Joan Caristo’s haunted flat bed. Best family theme went to the four generations of the Hayward/Rousseau family who decorated the hay wagon and included Dorothy, the Wicked Witch, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion.
