Selectmen to open Ferry Landing bids
By CHARLOTTE BOYNTON
Staff Reporter
Westport Island selectmen will hold a special selectmen’s meeting Tuesday, December 1, to open the bids for the Ferry Landing project.
According to information provided by First Selectman George Richardson at their weekly selectmen’s meeting Monday noon, there are currently 12 bidders.
The selectmen were asked if there is going to be a bidders’ conference before the bids are opened. Richardson said no, because when all the bidders do not attend, it becomes confusing for the other bidders. Pine Tree Engineer Steve DeWick, and George Powell, Boating Facilities Director at Maine Department of Conservation are expected to be present during the bid opening.
In other business the selectmen signed a request for funds from the Maine Department of Transportation Urban-Rural Initiative Program agreeing that the money the town will receive in 2009-2010 will be used appropriately. They also certified the money they received last year was spent on projects authorized by the state.
Last year’s money was spent on the Fowles Point Road, in the amount of $11,700; Bay Shore Road, $4,420; and Post Office Road, $17,524. The town received $29,176 last year. The amount spent on these capital improvements amounted to over $33,000.
According to the letter the town received from MDOT, it is estimated that Westport will receive $26,600 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2009. The estimated quarterly installments will be for $6,666.
The selectmen confirmed that the informational hearing for Deirdre Dunlop is scheduled with certified Maine assessor Eugene Huskins and the board of selectman, Saturday, November 21, at 9:30 a.m.
The selectmen are discussing the purchase of a storage shed for the Town Office emergency generator. The prices for the shed range from $600 to $900. The selectmen tabled making a decision until they can look at the storage sheds. They want to look into an aluminum shed as well as the wood sheds.
