Award-winning Local Poet to Read at the Lincoln Home

Event has passed

Alice Gifford will read from and sign copies of her newly published collection of poems, Sailing for Home on Monday, April 20 at 3 pm, at the Lincoln Home, 22 River Road, Newcastle.

The poems in Sailing For Home speak of Maine, the weather, family, sailing, loss, nature, and the news with wry, appreciative observationMany of the poems are inspired by summers spent at Gifford’s cottage in South Bristol and sailing the Maine coast from Portsmouth to Nova Scotia. Selections have been previously published in journals and anthologies and have won awards from the Maine Poets Society and others.

Born in Montreal, Alice Gifford graduated from McGill University and did graduate work in French and English at Brown University. She and her husband Hal Gifford raised three daughters while teaching in several New England schools. Eventually, they moved to Maine year-round and started Kennebec Books, a fixture in Augusta for over twenty years. Alice now lives at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle.

Sailing for Home was published by Maine Author’s Publishing in Rockland and is also available for sale at local bookstores, including Maine Coast Book Shop in Damariscotta.
