SPRUCE POINT INN
SEPTEMBER 2014

Greetings!

Just as summer brings one set of memories for the Maine coast, autumn has its own set of experiences to enjoy. In September and October, we're delighted to share insider tips that include leaf-peeping, apple picking, pumpkin patches, and golden Indian Summer sunshine balanced with cool, crisp air off the ocean. As we keep saying, these are "the golden months" of the season. The leaves are a-glow and the sun is an inviting presence as the cool winds of autumn dance in from the ocean. The autumn activities on the Mid-coast are in full swing, as you'll read below; but the crowds are gone, leaving such perfect days to those with the time to savor them.

Chef Roberts and his culinary team are making best use of the harvest with apples, squash, pumpkins and savory herbs appearing in the daily specials. Come see if you think Ainne's Sheepscot Folded Pumpkin made with pumpkin and Jim Beam, makes a good 'adult beverage alternative' to Hogwarts pumpkin juice! Recipe below.

Now might be a good time to enjoy our Autumn Gold Package, before we say goodbye to the 2014 season on October 12 - details follow.

We look forward to sharing this golden season with you. See you soon.

Ange and Joe

Autumn Gold

It's official - Indian Summer has arrived on the Mid-coast. A suitably magic time that often coincides with the Autumnal Equinox and the coming mysteries of lengthening October shadows. Technically it's the season of sunshine that lingers after the first frost. Here at Spruce Point Inn, Indian Summer is the season of Autumn Gold. And we've created the Autumn Gold Package to entice you to visit Boothbay one more time this year.
Think of Autumn Gold as your reward for being a Spruce Point Inn-sider, and another opportunity to create Oceanside memories, made in Maine. Available Sunday through Thursday nights through October 9, 2014, the Autumn Gold Package starts at $265 (for a Modern Lodge Oceanview room; plus 8% Maine lodging tax and 10% resort fee) and includes breakfast. Make your reservation by calling 800.553.0289.

Fall - Inside and Out!

We hope you take full advantage of the "innkeepers' tips" we provide on the website, our own mobile app and in the 'what's new' ideas we send out every day. Still, autumn is an especially rich time for enjoying all the Inn and our mid-coast partners have to offer, and we wanted to pay special attention to our new activities and the fall events taking place all around us.

Inside the Inn, we have a new schedule of diversions: a Mixology demonstration and tasting on Tuesdays; Culinary Demonstration on Wednesday, and Afternoon Wine & Cheese tasting on Thursdays.

The Spa is open daily (Monday-Saturday, 9am to 6pm; Sundays, 9am to 4pm). Of course, the S'Mores Station is in full swing, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 6:30-8:30 pm.

"Outside" you can enjoy the 57 acres and waterfront of Spruce Point by foot, boat and bike, as always. There's a guided hiking tour of Oven's Mouth Preserve on Fridays. And then there are the glories of the 250-acre Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and the Boothbay Region Land Trust Trails (both of which name Spruce Point Inn their preferred lodging partner) -- ideal places to view spectacular foliage (and fall gardens) in all their scarlet, russet and gold. The harvest festivals, antique shows and local craftsmen's classics like the Damariscotta Pumpkin Festival (October 5-14) and the famous Fryeburg Fair (Sep 28-Oct 5) are in full swing. It's harvest season at Cellardoor Winery and Vineyard; and time for Oktoberfest-style brews at Boothbay Craft Brewery. Family-friendly activities include pick-your-own apple orchards and events like the Boothbay Railway Museum Family Harvest Days (Oct 4-5).

Stay & Play the "New" Boothbay Harbor Country Club

Perhaps it is not surprising that the stiff breezes, salty air and challenging terrain of Maine would take so naturally to a game invented on the Scottish links. Southern climes may make for a longer playing season in America, but the rolling greens and framing forests of Maine - played to their natural advantage in the redesign of the par 71 18 holes at Boothbay -- make for a game more aligned with its roots on the coast of the North Sea.

With the new front-nine opened to the public Boothbay Harbor Country Club is a place where the 21st century golfer can invoke the legends of the game. Watching the morning fogs lift off the fairways or chasing the lengthening shadows of an autumn afternoon as a final pair heads for the clubhouse and the "19th hole," it's easier to call on the ghosts of Hoy Lake and St. Andrews in Maine than in Myrtle Beach.

Spruce Point Inn is one of the preferred lodging partners of Boothbay Harbor Country Club and offers a Stay and Play package through the balance of the season (October 13, 2014).

What better place "fore" a few more oceanside memories of golf made in Maine, captured in the amber of Indian Summer?
