Consider the Conversation.

Please join Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care & Hospice and Spectrum Generations Bridges Homecare for a free screening of "Consider the Conversation," a documentary about advanced care planning. This hour long film is relevant to all age groups whether we are considering how we would like to live our final days here on earth or looking to honor the wishes and needs of our parents or loved ones as they face difficult decisions.

Two separate screenings are planned, each followed by a question and answer session:

Tuesday, April 22 from 4-5:30 p.m. at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main St., Damariscotta. The Rev. Stephen J. White, D. Min, Kno-Wal-Lin Home Care & Hospice Chaplain, Allison Wood, Spectrum Generations Bridges Supervisor and Cynthia Troxel, Spectrum Generations Aging and Disability Resource Councilor will answer questions following the film.

Friday, April 25 from 1-2:30 p.m. at Spectrum Generations Knox Community Center, 61 Park St., Rockland. Heidi McCaffery, LSW, CHPCA, Kno-Wal-Lin's director of Hospice & Palliative Care and Helen Harrington, LSW, Hospice social worker for Kno-Wal-Lin, Dave Brown, Spectrum Generations Bridges Outreach Specialist and Gloria Rhode, Spectrum Generations Aging and Disability Resource Councilor will answer questions following the film.

The film was released to PBS stations throughout the country in June 2011 and has created intense interest nationwide." Producers Michael Bernhagen and Terry Kaldhusdal add that the "goals for Consider the Conversation are simple, but far from easy. First, we hope to change the commonly held American attitude that views end-of-life as a failed medical event to one that sees it as a normal process rich in opportunity for human development. Second, we hope to inspire dialogue between patient and doctor, husband and wife, parent and child, minister and parishioner. And third, we hope to change behavior by encouraging medical professionals, healthcare organizations, and clergy to take the lead in counseling others."
