The Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library met on May 11 to discuss new and ongoing projects. The Friends group is growing every day and this meeting was no exception, with more people than ever attending. Keep coming, everyone!

Recently approved plans included money to help the Children’s Librarian begin plans on her Summer Reading Program: Heroes, spring cleaning of the library and funding to continue to allowing library customers to order interlibrary loan materials at no cost.

The Friends’ last fundraising venture was used to begin renovations to Secondhand Prose, the Friends used book sale room. Heating is now installed and we soon hope to have new shelving built and installed. Two Bridges Regional Jail has been approached for this project. Estimates are under way to either clean or replace the carpeting.

During this meeting, people signed up to open and work in the used book sale room every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Stop by and check out the great prices.

Two Friends have agreed to take over plans for offering adult programming. Among the ideas are an author series, a crafting series or local history lectures. For any other types of programs or the names of anyone willing to speak or entertain the public, please leave your ideas at the WPL circulation desk.

Friends will have an annual luncheon at Le Garage on May 27 at noon. If you are not signed up, please do so by contacting Linda Winterberg at lwinterberg@gmail.com before May 25th.

The Meeting closed with book sharing. Please join us at our next meeting on July 13 at 9:30 for refreshments and 10:00 for our business meeting.
