American Legion Post 54 of Wiscasset helped Wiscasset Municipal Airport and ceremony attendees dedicate the facility’s new flagpole Sunday afternoon. The town paid Nor’east Flagpole in Waldoboro $2,500 out of the airport budget for the pole and installation, Airport Manager Frank Costa has said. Airport employee and retired Naval commander Rick Tetrev donated an American flag, which will fly on days when staff are present to tend it, until a light is installed so the flag can remain up overnight, Costa said.

Selectmen supported getting the flagpole after resident Gordon Kontrath pointed out the airport didn’t have one to fly the American flag, Costa and Town Manager Marion Anderson have said.
