A Damariscotta man has been indicted by the Lincoln County Grand Jury for charges stemming from an incident when he allegedly threatened a sheriff’s deputy with a kitchen knife.

Gary Collamore, 68, of Damariscotta was indicted on one count of Class C criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon on Jan. 10 in Newcastle after he allegedly brandished a knife and threatened to harm a sheriff’s deputy.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. Jan. 10, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Chubbuck responded to a residence in Newcastle after receiving a call that a man had allegedly cut himself with a knife and was reportedly suicidal.

When Chubbuck arrived, he couldn't see anyone inside, but he reportedly opened the door after yelling out that he was a member of the Sheriff's Office. He then reportedly saw a man inside the house. The man, who was later identified as Collamore, was allegedly holding a large knife, and when Chubbuck pointed his service weapon at Collamore, he allegedly refused to lower the knife.

Collamore allegedly made a threatening remark to Chubbuck, who still had his weapon drawn. At one point, Chubbuck wrote that he had his finger on the trigger and reportedly feared that Collamore would lunge at him using the knife.

Chubbuck reported to have said he would fire his weapon if the subject moved any closer, at which point Collamore reportedly laid his knife on the ground before going to the ground himself. Chubbuck wrote that he kicked the knife away and told Collamore to put his hands behind his back, at which point Collamore allegedly said he was going to have to fight him. Chubbuck reportedly put away his gun, and began prying Collamore's arms out from under in an attempt to handcuff him.

According to Chubbuck's report, Collamore began thrashing on the ground and allegedly said he would want to “fight or die.”

Collamore was later booked at the hospital to treat his cut arm and Chubbuck made a note in his report that Collamore was allegedly intoxicated at the time of arrest.

Collamore was charged with Class C criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon for the allege incident, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
