Alna Column: Tax liens mailed

Tue, 09/16/2014 - 12:30pm

To all who have been asking about the next bean supper, here are the details: Saturday, Oct. 4, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., $7 for adults and $5 for 5 to 12, pie auction and 50/50 raffle. There will be usual good food, beans, ham, salads, desserts and beverages. This is to benefit the fire department.

HVNC will be having busy weekend of Sept. 27 and 28. On Sept. 27, there will be the Edible and Medicinal Mushroom class from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Learn to identify and how to collect them. Visit www.hvnc.org to register.

Sorry to say, tax liens on property taxes for 2013 went out Friday. This is not a bad thing unless you don't know how it works.

You have 18 months to clean up this tax bill before a foreclosure can be started. You can pay weekly, monthly, cash or check or whatever way is easiest for you.

Amy and I don't mind writing extra receipts to accommodate you folks who have suddenly found yourself on this list. In this day and age it is not anything to be ashamed about. My thought on this is: been there, done that; I survived, and so will you.

Not much happening in Alna this week. That is a good thing. Lots of parents need to rest up now that children are back to school.

May you have a sunshine-filled, warm week.
