Ann Reed

Ann Reed, 81, of Nobleboro and East Boothbay, died peacefully on Jan. 7, 2015 at her home on East Neck Road in Nobleboro.

She was born in Bangor on Sept. 28, 1933, the daughter of Donald W. and Jeannette C. Reed. She graduated from Maine Central Institute and from Farmington State Teachers’ College with a bachelor’s degree in education. Ann taught kindergarten and first grade for 33 years in Skowhegan, Searsport and Belfast.  

Ann loved spending summers at her cottage overlooking the Damariscotta River. She enjoyed writing and illustrating children’s stories, and completed hundreds of drawings and paintings. She was a member of the Old Bristol Garden Club, the Nobleboro Historical Society and Clam Shell Quilters. She was also a long time member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, serving since 1969.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; sister, Jane Reed; and brother, Edwin Reed.

Ann lived for the past 30 years with Ken and Flora Gray, now both deceased, and was considered part of the family.

As such, Ann is survived by John and Penny Gray and their sons, Stephen and Michael, all of Raleigh, North Carolina. She is also survived by her beloved soft-coated Wheaten terrier, Jenny.

Ann will be buried in the family lot at the Riverside Cemetery in Orono in the spring. In lieu of flowers, Ann requested donations be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
