Appreciates your support

    Dear Editor:

I would like to thank all of the people who have given me their comments, suggestions and, yes, their criticisms, as to the operations of the town of Wiscasset these past two years. Also, I would like to especially thank those who voted for me two years ago. Your support has been and continues to be sincerely appreciated.

The position of selectman, like all elective offices, is one of public trust. The selectmen, above all else, are charged with striving to ensure the best long term interests of the town of Wiscasset as a whole. I have always tried to do so. Pursuing the overall best for the town as a whole over the long term is not always the most popular, nor the easiest thing to do, but it is the right thing to do. Merely seeking the easiest or most expedient solution is not sufficient. Compromise, while a necessary component of governance, should never be an acceptable alternative if it sacrifices long term best interests.

The town of Wiscasset faces numerous challenges in the years ahead from maintaining and improving our infrastructure to expanding business opportunities, and critically, to ensuring a quality education for our children. As the town moves forward it is essential that the question of what most broadly benefits the town over the next five, 10 and even 20 years always be kept foremost in mind. We owe it to our children, and ourselves, to do no less. It is with the above in mind that I respectfully ask for your vote on June 13.

    Wm. David Cherry

    Selectman

    Wiscasset
