‘Art in Bloom’ at St. Andrew’s

    Spring is a time many of us think about flowers in our gardens. Their color, form and beauty captivate us. Many a famous painter has been inspired by flowers. St. Andrew’s Church in Newcastle is putting art and flowers together in a special event, “Art in Bloom,” to take place June 9-11 at the Parish House at 16 Glidden St. A preview party will be held Thursday, June 8.

    Floral designers will create arrangements inspired by works of art by area artists and craftsmen.

    Painters include acrylic artist Penny Moodey and watercolorists Bob Vaughn and Hannah Ineson. Painters from some of the Bristol Road, Damariscotta galleries will also be featured.

    Hand-painted furniture and ceramics from the Markings Gallery in Bath will adorn the numerous rooms in the Parish House, along with collectibles from The Art of Antiquing in Round Pond.

    A stunning quilt from Alewives Fabrics in Damariscotta Mills and a selection of silk scarves will add to the colorful décor.

    Tickets for the church’s Outreach Fund are $15 and can be purchased at the church office or at the door of the Parish House. Tickets for the preview party, which is at 5:30 p.m. on June 8 and will include wine and food, are $25. Hours for the show are June 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and June 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

    The Lincoln County Energy Fund, Ecumenical Food Pantry, CHIP and Habitat for Humanity are among the many local and international organizations that benefit from the church’s fundraising events.
