Art classes asked to exhibit holiday paintings

December’s art classes at Wiscasset Primary School were treated to three of Caralyn Buehner’s snowmen stories. Art students were delighted by the imaginary world of snow people as depicted in "Snowmen at Night," "Snowmen at Christmas" and "Snowmen All Year."

These stories and book illustrations are exciting, animated, and full of fascinating and believable details. The fantastic stories of how snow people celebrate life in the “real” world (when we humans are not looking) captured my student’s imaginations. They happily created their own snowmen paintings using the watercolor medium and design techniques.

In early December, we received a request to exhibit holiday paintings from the F.W. Webb Company of West Bath. Michael Blagdon was our contact person. He is an F.W. Webb employee and Wiscasset Primary School dad. We were very excited about this exhibit opportunity.

Students' choice to participate resulted in 54 original snowmen paintings featured at the annual Webb Company Trade Show Event. The response from those in attendance was overwhelmingly complimentary. My students were proud to receive compliments and praise for their work.

The F.W. Webb Company executives further demonstrated their appreciation by giving each participant an art kit filled with supplies. Michael Blagdon visited our school and handed each student a kit, shook hands, and thanked students for their participation. This brought big smiles to their faces.

We are grateful for these gifts, the F.W. Webb Company’s generosity, and Michael Blagdon’s personal attention. We value their unsolicited support and are very happy to have a new community partner in education.
