Arthur B. Slater, 90, of Boothbay Harbor died June 10, 2016, with his loving family at his side.

Arthur grew up the oldest of four children. In 1944, after finishing his first year of college, Art was accepted into the Army Air Cadet Program. Following completion of his service, he re-enrolled at the University of Rhode Island where he earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.

He married his wife, Verna, in 1951 and together they raised two sons in Lexington, Massachusetts. He spent almost his entire career at Raytheon where he helped design early radar systems, missile guidance systems and solar technologies.

In 1987, after his early retirement, Art and Verna expanded their interest in travel and divided their time between Florida, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and sailing in the U.S., the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Their love of the Maine coast brought them to Boothbay in 1999 and they quickly became part of the community.

In addition to his wife, Art is survived by his son, Geoffrey and his wife, Lauren of Fayston, Vermont; his son, Craig and his wife, Colleen of Denver, Colorado; and granddaughters, Carol Mooney and her husband, Frederick of Winter Park, Colorado, Kellie Slater of Denver, Colorado, and Meagan Slater of Hermosa Beach, California; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Mooney of Winter Park, Colorado; and his brother, Donald and wife, Mary of Diamondhead, Mississippi.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard and sister, Marilyn.

Art wants to be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend. A graveside service and celebration of his life will take place this summer in Newcastle Bridge, New Brunswick.

Hall’s of Boothbay has care of the arrangements. To extend online condolences, light a candle for Art, or to share a story of pictures, visit his Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
