BCA's 2017 Fourth of July celebration to include new features

Mon, 06/26/2017 - 5:30pm

It's hard to believe that it's almost the Fourth of July. But, as has been the case for the past 30 years, the Boothbay Civic Association will provide something to do on the holiday with its annual chicken barbecue and celebration on the Boothbay Common.

On Tuesday, July 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain date, July 5), there will be fun for the whole family, with children's games and activities, arts and craft vendors, music by local entertainers, hot dogs and hamburgers and, of course, the chicken barbecue dinner, complete with homemade pies and beverages, for only $12. The chicken is expected to be served beginning at noon.

John Bertolet and Stephanie Hawke will man the hot dog and hamburger stand throughout the celebration — or until the food runs out. Coffee and doughnuts will be sold at the beginning of the day.

For the kids, Desiree Scorcia of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library will set up activities beside the gazebo — she wants to set up near a water source, so you can expect some water to fly at the activity spot.

The Boothbay Fire Department will be providing its dunk tank for those children and adults who want to "dunk" a participant, whether it's an adult or child.

The music lineup will include the Boothbay Region Community Band at 10 a.m., followed by Arthur Webster, Paul Johnson (12 to 1:30) and Chip Schwehm at 1:30.

The Boothbay Civic Association, under the leadership of new president, Pam Wiley, has contributed more than $860,000 to the region over the past 30 years, including the donation to the town of Boothbay for the purchase of the former Leavitt's Garage land where the town office now sits.

So mark your calendars and come to the Boothbay Common for some holiday fun on July 4.
