Wiscaset School Committee

Budget, energy project topics for school panel Thursday

Wed, 03/22/2017 - 7:30am

The Wiscasset School Committee will hear from administrators Thursday night, March 23 on their preliminary budget requests. The 5 p.m. workshop in the Wiscasset Middle High School library gets school budget season under way. The panel’s monthly meeting follows at 6 p.m.

The committee is also set to take up the sixth grade’s possible move next fall from Wiscasset Elementary School to WMHS; administrators have been looking at bringing the middle school grades of sixth, seven and eighth together in a wing of WMHS.

Superintendent of Schools Heather Wilmot will update the committee on pre-K and the search for WES’ next principal. Mona Schlein retires at the end of the school year.

In a recent interview, Chairman Michael Dunn anticipated members on March 23 would discuss selectmen’s decision to hold a June vote on the department’s planned $1.7 million energy project. The project appears on the agenda. It is on there as a discussion item, Wilmot wrote in an email response Tuesday.

An executive, or closed-door, session is set on staff negotiations.

At the budget workshop, Wilmot and other administrators are set to make presentations. Then the committee has a budget discussion on tap during the meeting that follows, according to the two agendas released Monday.
