River Arts is inviting artists throughout Maine to submit artwork for jurying in its upcoming exhibition, “Small Works.” Opening reception is Friday, Dec. 1 from 5-7 p.m. The show will hang through Jan. 5.

Artists can submit up to three works in any medium including sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics and fine craft — representational or abstract. Work can be delivered anytime during gallery hours from now until the deadline, Nov. 25 at 4 pm.

The juror for this show is Wes LaFountain. With nearly 30 years’ experience in the arts as educator, curator, juror, writer and lecturer, LaFountain has spent the bulk of his career advocating for artists in both Maine and New Hampshire.  As a result of his work with the New Hampshire Arts Council and 10 years as an arts educator for the Portland Museum of Art, he has also served as a guest juror for the state Arts Councils of Nevada and Nebraska.

LaFountain has worked in Maine galleries as curator and director, eventually serving as director of the Museum of Art at the University of New Hampshire, and later as executive director of the Woodman Museum, also in New Hampshire.  Currently, Wes works as a private collection specialist and freelance curator in Maine, where his favorite artists reside.
