Catherine Anne Chenoweth, 45, died Nov. 7, 2014 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after a long illness. She went to the university hospital hoping for a lung transplant but instead died before the transplant from a lung infection.

She was born in Boothbay Harbor on Aug. 9, 1969, the only child of Stanley and Jean Chenoweth. She graduated from Boothbay Region High School in 1987 and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston for two years. She then worked in Boston and played electric bass in bands until 1995, when she moved to the East Village in Manhattan, New York.

In February 1996, she was diagnosed with a very rare, progressive and fatal lung disease, Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and was in St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City for more than two months with her lung collapsing.

She recovered and continue to work and play in bands in NYC and also taught tai chi until 2001 when the World Trade Center was destroyed. The air quality was so bad, she moved back to Maine, to the Eustis-Stratton area, where her parents had a camp. By then she was on Medicare disability.

In 2002, she had a house built in Coplin Plantation where she lived until her death. She will miss her tai chi group at Franklin Memorial Hospital, her chipmunks and her very good friend, Dinah Perkins, who was with her to hold her hand while she died.

She is survived by her parents of Eustis; one uncle, two aunts and many cousins.

Contributions in her memory may be made to The LAM Foundation, 4015 Executive Park Dr., Suite 320, Cincinnati, OH 45241.
