A Ceremony of Carols, Op. 28 at First Congo

Sat, 12/20/2014 - 8:45am

A Ceremony of Carols, Opus 28 by Benjamin Britten will highlight the service on the fourth Sunday in Advent at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset.

Because of the special choir music, the prelude to the service on Dec. 21 will begin at 9:45 a.m.

A Ceremony of Carols is based largely on 15th and 16th century English poems. Originally conceived as a series of unrelated Christmas songs, it was later unified into one piece with the processional and recessional chant in unison.

The chant is based on the Gregorian antiphone Hodie Christus natus est.

The choir will be accompanied by Music Director Leela Koipillai with soloists Suki Flanagan on harp and David Sieracki on cello.

The public is invited to the service.
