Chefs to compete in Meals on Wheels fundraiser

Event in Bath Sept. 19
Sun, 09/03/2017 - 8:15am

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, chefs from central and Midcoast Maine will compete in Spectrum Generations fifth annual Celebrity Chef Challenge at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath.

This year’s event brings past competitors together to engage in the ultimate cooking competition — as chefs will be challenged to create the winning dishes following USDA Meals on Wheels Guidelines. Returning chefs are Justin Bard from Mason’s Brewing Company in Brewer, Chris Toole from The Highlands, Tim O’Brien from  Enoteca Athena in Brunswick, and Chris Geer from Tuscan Bistro in Freeport.

New this year is the addition of celebrity emcee Shannon Moss, who recently launched Code Gratitude to benefit Maine’s first responders. Returning celebrity waiter, Bob Crowley (of “Survivor” fame) will be joined by his wife, Peggy, and their daughter, Page; Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry will also join the celebrity server brigade which will be rounded out by Chad Ceccarini from Frontier in Brunswick, and David Muise from Certine Flatware. Returning bartender Chris Gatchell from The Wallingford Dram in Kittery will be crafting specialty cocktails, and overall kitchen coordination will be aided by returning expediter, Chris Hart, from The Blaine House.

Spectrum Generations serves approximately 40 percent of the Meals on Wheels delivered in Maine. The need for these home-delivered meals is growing and lacks sufficient funds to keep up with the growing demand. The Celebrity Chef Challenge helps raise funds that directly support our neighbors; tickets are $75 per person (provides 15 meals for homebound seniors and disabled adults) or $550 for a table of 8 (provides 110 meals). The evening will begin at 5 p.m. with cocktail hour, cash bar and passed hors d’oeuvres created by the chefs, feature a silent auction, and a keynote speech from Courtney Kennedy of the Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Call Sarah Brown at Spectrum Generations (207) 620-1677 or email sbrown@spectrumgenerations.org for tickets or more information. Sponsorships available and auction items will be accepted until Sept. 12.
