Clara H. Chase

Clara Holland Chase, 98, died peacefully May 5, 2015 at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta.

Born Feb. 1, 1917 in Andover, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Emma Jane and Chester White Holland. She attended Abbot Academy and Erskine College.

Before moving to Maine in 2011, she lived for many years in Bethesda, Maryland, where she was a Red Cross volunteer at the National Naval Medical Center, and was a member of the Burning Tree Garden Club, and the Navy Wives Club.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Elwood Norton Chase, II, Capt, USN (Ret).

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susann and John Hochstein; daughter, Carolyn Harting; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cove’s Edge for the loving care they gave Clara over the past year.

A time of visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., on Friday, May 8 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta. A funeral will be held at the Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
