Rear Admiral Linda L. Fagan, newly appointed commander of the First District, toured Coast Guard Station Boothbay Harbor on Thursday, July 31, as part of her familiarization with the stations now under her command.

Included in her visit were a meeting with station Officer in Charge BMC William Armstrong accompanied by Sector Northern New England Commander CAPT Brian Gilda, a tour of the station and an “all hands” session with introductory remarks, a question and answer session and recognition of two station personnel.

During Fagan’s 29-year career she has served literally all over the world with her first assignment out of the Coast Guard Academy being the deck watch officer on the cutter Polar Star out of Seattle and her most recent assignment being Deputy Director for Operations, Headquarters U.S. Northern Command in Colorado.

U.S.C.G. First District covers 8 Northeastern States, over 2000 miles of shoreline from northern New Jersey to the Canadian border and has command of 11,000 Active Duty, Reserve and Auxiliary personnel along with 30 cutters, 200 boats and 8 aircraft.

CG Station Boothbay Harbor is home to two 47-foot Motor Life Boats, one 25-foot Response Boat and approximately 30 active duty members along with a CG Reserve and CG Auxiliary component.

The station is under the command of Chief Boatswains Mate William C. Armstrong who oversees the activity in the station’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) which extends from Cape Small to the west and just west of Port Clyde to the east.

CG Station Boothbay Harbor is a “Heavy Weather” station, which means the coxswains and crews are qualified to perform in the challenging wind and sea conditions often encountered in this area.
