The Wiscasset Historic Preservation Commission tabled one certificate of appropriateness June 21, for Deborah Morgan's fence at 210 Main St. The fence had been conditionally approved, pending approval of the code enforcement officer. Then-CEO Stan Waltz approved it, but the contractor has been hurt in a construction accident and could not attend, according to Chair John Reinhardt.

The second COA was for an ongoing renovation of G. Sangat's and Singh Kalsen's Federal house at 14 Middle St. The contractor, George Freeman, is a partner in the renovation and appeared to discuss plans including installing shutters on all the windows in the main part of the house, replacing the concrete front steps with granite treads on the existing brick foundations, replacing the front door, currently a Victorian door, with one more in keeping with Federal, a see-through storm door, and a new bathroom window not visible from the street.

After discussing some of the options, the commission voted 5-0 to approve the COA.

The commission also welcomed new member Pam Logan.

The panel discussed the Maine Preservation Commission's recommendations for changes to the ordinance, especially some of the definitions, to help the town meet requirements for a Certified Local Government. The commission decided to put together information about the benefits of being a CLG, including grant opportunities, and get on the agenda at an upcoming select board meeting to seek approval to pursue it.

The commission meets next on July 5.
