Damariscotta contradance this Friday

Tue, 02/07/2017 - 10:30am

The public is invited to a community contradance at the Damariscotta Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Friday, Feb. 10 — part of a series of second Friday of the month contradances. The dance will be held at the church at the corner of Bristol Road and Main Street.

The evening will begin at 6:30 with a family dance where easy dances will be taught accompanied by the Oyster Creek Fiddlers & Friends. Local musicians are welcome to sit in. At a break at 7:30 p.m., refreshments will be available and folks are encouraged to bring snacks and sweets for a dessert potluck.

At 8 p.m., caller John McIntire and the fantastic band Volution will lead dancers with an energetic blend of contemporary and traditional folk music. Volution includes Helen Newell of Damariscotta on violin, Nolan Rogers on cello and Adams Komblum on violin and penny whistle.

This contradance series is an initiative by local musicians and Lincoln Academy students. Suggested donations for just the early family dance are $4/$2 (adults/students) and for the entire evening (both dances), $8/$5 (adults/students).
