Tue, 09/01/2015 - 11:00am

Dana F. Davis, 86, of Boothbay Harbor died peacefully Aug. 31, 2015, with his loving family by his side.

He was born to Joseph and Myrtle (Simmons) Thibodeau on Jan. 20, 1929, in Friendship. He was adopted and raised by Daniel H. and Edna B. (Simmons) Davis.

Dana grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from Boothbay Region High School, class of 1947. He worked at Sample's Shipyard and then went to work at Pierce & Hartung as the store sales manager. He also worked at the Department of Marine Fisheries until retirement in 1994.

Dana enjoyed hunting and fishing, being a member of the Boothbay Region Fish & Game for 20 years. He loved perusing yard sales and keeping a perpetual yard sale in his front driveway during the summer months. Dana was known for his wonderful sense of humor and for being something of a prankster. He had the “gift of gab” and a ready smile for every person he met. He was a real people person and being of service to others was very important to Dana.

In 1989 Dana met and married Marjorie Ranco and they lived together happily for the past 26 years. Dana loved his family and prided himself in being a “family man.”

Dana was predeceased by his first wife of 41 years, Mary Lorraine Davis; his brother, Joseph Thibodeau; his sister, Eleanor Tibbetts; and his brother, Tommy Thibodeau.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Davis of Boothbay Harbor; his daughters, Donna Lewis and her husband, Gary of Boothbay Harbor, and Sharon Grant and her husband Richard of Boothbay Harbor; his sister, Virginia Thompson of Friendship; his brother, Theron Thibodeau of Friendship; and his sister, Barbara Simmons of Waldoboro; his grandchildren, Michelle Farnham and her husband Gary of Boothbay Harbor, Danelle Davis and her husband Benjamin of Boothbay, Kathleen Dykhuis and her husband Scott of Yulee, Florida, Amy Grant and Patrick Michael of Trevett; his great-grandchildren, Kirstie and Kaylee Farnham, Skyler and Braden Davis, Roslynn and Reagan Dykhuis and Kylie Michael; one great-great-grandchild, Isaac Perry; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay. A celebration of Dana’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. at Hall’s of Boothbay, with a graveside to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, and a reception at the Boothbay Fire Station after the graveside. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dana’s name to the American Cancer Society, specifically for asbestos-related cancers.
