Democrats’ progress in legislature is topic of meeting

Tue, 04/15/2014 - 3:00pm

Democrats moved many important issues forward in the current legislative session. A bill sponsored by Sen. Chris Johnson to expand the use of fresh local foods in schools, help farmers and add jobs, received a unanimous vote in the senate; and a bill sponsored by Rep. Mick Devin to study the effects of ocean acidification and its impact on Maine's shellfish, received a unanimous vote in the House.

These and other achievements of Democrats, some challenges they faced and prospects for the future will be the focus of Lincoln County Democratic Committee's April meeting. Invited speakers include Mark Eves, Speaker of the Maine's House; Sens. Chris Johnson and Eloise Vitelli; and Reps. Mick Devin and Bruce MacDonald.

The meeting will be held Wednesday, April 23 at the Edgecomb Town Hall on Town Hall Road off Route 27. A 30-minute social gathering will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will get under way at 7. Refreshments will be available.

All interested citizens are welcome to attend and, as is customary at LCDC meetings, invited to bring non-perishable foodstuffs for donation to a local food pantry.
