Diane Lynn Setchell, 70, of East Boothbay died peacefully on June 13, 2014.

Diane was born in Livingston, N.J., daughter of the late Gustav and Helen Brown Bangert. She attended and graduated with the Livingston, N.J., high school class of 1961.

Following high school Diane attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Newark, N.J., graduating with the Class of 1964. After college, she and a friend motorcycled across the United States, eventually settling in the Los Angeles, Calif., area where she worked as a registered nurse. She met her soon to be husband, Frank Setchell, while working at the hospital. They married on July 9, 1966. After marriage Diane had her daughter Mary, then son David.

In 1976 the family relocated to East Boothbay, where they lived until her death on Friday. When Diane arrived in East Boothbay, her plan was to stay at home with her two children, but she grew tired of going to the laundromat, so she took a nursing position at the Bath Memorial Hospital to purchase a dryer. Diane retired more than 35 years later from Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

After retirement she and her husband Frank enjoyed traveling in their R.V. and riding motorcycles around the country. Both Diane and Frank were active members of Saint Columba’s Church throughout their lives in the Boothbay region. Diane cherished her grandchildren and spent countless hours crafting, swimming, showing them life outside of Maine, and always encouraging their curiosity.

Diane was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 47 years, Frank Wayne Setchell, who died on December 14, 2013.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Setchell-Pardue and husband Steven of Oakland; her son, David Setchell and wife Marie of Gardiner; her grandsons, Aidan Michael and Noah James Pardue of Oakland; her granddaughters, Ella Joan and Nora Lynn Setchell of Gardiner; her sister, Gail Seiders and husband Francis of South Bristol; her brother, Don Bangert and wife Carla of Portland, Ore.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Mid Coast Hospital, 123 Medical Center Drive, Brunswick, ME 04011; or Boothbay Railway Village, 586 Wiscasset Road, Boothbay, ME 04537. Private family memorial services will be conducted at a later date. Simmions-Harrington and Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay, is in charge of arrangements.
