Early November classes at Adult Ed

During early November at Boothbay Region Adult Ed you can knit a sparkling ruffled scarf, make music on a ukulele, sample pilates, or take a basic Excel course. If you are interested in local history, there's still time to sign up for Tidal Mills of Midcoast Maine on Oct. 28.

Ukuleles have recently experienced a surge in popularity! Ukulele for Beginners is a five session class Nov. 3-17 on Monday and Wednesday evenings You don’t have to read music to have fun playing the ukulele. No matter your age learning to play the ukulele is easier to learn than just about any other instrument. This class will introduce you to the instrument: holding, fingering, and teach you how to play basic chords how to strum. Bring your uke and learn to play some songs. (New and used ukuleles are available in Brunswick, Portland, Camden and Newcastle). The time is 6 to 8 p.m., and the cost is $55.

Basic Excel is a hands-on introduction to Excel 2010, a powerful, industry-leading spreadsheet application. Learn the basics of worksheets, how to use tools and functions, set-up a worksheet, create formulas, import and export information. Excel is a useful tool for business and home to track expenses, create mailing lists, and much more. Prerequisite: basic computer and key-boarding skills. The class meets Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 4, 5, and 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., and the fee is $36.

Are you interested in learning about pilates, but not sure you want to commit to a class? Join Dianne Daniels for a one night Pilates Sampler on Thursday, Nov. 6 to find out what pilates is all about! Learn some basic principles and standard movements to tone, strengthen and stretch your muscles. This is a great way to see if pilates is for you! Please bring a mat and towel to class. The time is 6 to 7 p.m., and the cost is $14.

 Learn to make a beautiful, ruffled metallic scarf in Shimmery Ruffled Knit Scarf in a one evening class on Monday, Nov. 3. Pre-requisite: basic knitting skills. Please bring a pair of #9 straight needles (10” long, plastic, wood, or acrylic). The time is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and the fee $14, plus cost of materials, $7, paid to the instructor on class night. Class size is limited so please register by Oct. 31.
