Wiscasset Selectmen

Early Wiscasset budget figures are up a little

Wed, 04/16/2014 - 10:00am

Wiscasset selectmen and the budget committee on April 19 will start pouring over a $5.3 million budget draft that asks $213,719 more in taxes than last year.

That would amount to an approximately $50 property tax hike on a home with an assessed valuation of $100,000, Selectmen's Chairman Ed Polewarczyk said in an interview April 16.

He and the rest of the board received the draft from Interim Town Manager Don Gerrish on April 15. The draft includes 2 percent cost of living hikes for non-union workers; salary adjustments based on union contracts; a new school resource officer's position for the police department; and five added hours to the work weeks of the town's executive assistant-general assistance employee, and a maintenance employee, Gerrish tells selectmen in a letter accompanying the draft.

Saturday's workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the municipal building.
