Edgecomb animal shelter extends hours

Fri, 10/24/2014 - 4:30pm

The Lincoln County Animal Shelter is changing its hours of operation effective Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Formerly closed on Sundays, the Lincoln County Animal Shelter will now be open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and continue its Saturday hours from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

During the week, the shelter will close on Mondays but extend Wednesday hours from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and be open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“It’s only about six more hours a week,” said Executive Director, Martha Kalina. “But it’s about six more hours of volunteering and adoptions and that cannot be bad.”

“Finances are tight and the additional payroll to extend more hours was cost prohibitive at this time,” she added.

Additionally, the LCAS board recently voted a new member to the board.

Matthew Goetting, associate head of school advancement at Lincoln Academy recently joined the shelter board.

“(Additional) valuable additions to our board are in the works,” said Board President Kathy Williams.

Lincoln County Animal Shelter is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit under the legal name of Boothbay Region Humane Society and serves as the contract shelter for over 25 towns in Lincoln, Knox and Sagadahoc counties. Visit the shelter at www.lcasmaine.com or on Facebook.
