Edgecomb Column: Voting wrap-up

Wed, 05/27/2015 - 11:15am

By now, we all know the results of our town election and town meeting. We thank Stuart Smith for his years of service on the board of selectmen, and welcome Mike Smith in as a new selectman. Congratulations to Deb Boucher, retaining the position of tax collector, and thanks to Karen Potter for running for that office. Claudia Coffin, Scott Griffin, Tom Abello and Pat Jeremiah are confirmed in their positions.

As to the town warrant: The Woodend Fund will not be drawn upon to make up the surplus account. Nor will the fire chief become a full-time salaried position. Also important to know — the due date for our property taxes has been moved up to Oct. 31, as of this fall.

Come join the residents of Edgecomb Eddy Green at their First Friday Coffee, 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 5. It will be a nice chance to share experiences, opinions, ideas!

On May 28 at 7 p.m., the Edgecomb Historical Society is meeting in the fellowship hall of the Edgecomb Congregational Church. Come see what we have in store for learning about the early days of our fair town! We are going through our archives, bringing out documents, journals, photographs, even the occasional artifact, to give you all a chance to speculate, identify, query and admire. See you there!

East Edgecomb is enjoying a population explosion! Susie Stephenson has, to date, 20 lambs (six sets of twins and one set of triplets) and two kids, with more on the way. She was counting a lamb a day for the first 11 days of May. The schedule for Susie's Fabrics, aka, Salt Marsh Schoolhouse, is Tuesdays, knitting; Thursdays, rughooking; dye workshops on Saturdays, hours 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call her at 207-315-2277 for more details.

Between the chickens on our side of the fence, and the lambsydyvees and kiddleedyvees (old World War II song) on the other side of the fence, the welkin here is definitely noisy. Trying to hear myself think at 234 River Road, 207-633-2978 and jocam@tidewater.net.
