Edith F. Chaney

Edith F. Chaney, 92, of Shore Road, Edgecomb died February 25, 2016 at her residence.

She was born in Bath on May 17, 1923, the daughter of Julius F. and Harriet K. (Pero) Berg. She grew up on Floral Street in Bath and graduated from Morse High School Class of 1941 with honors.

On March 21, 1943, she married Philip T. Chaney and they moved to Edgecomb in 1944. She was a 4H leader, a Girl Scout leader and sat on the Edgecomb School Board for more than 12 years.

She was very active in the Appalachian Trail Club where she earned a silver shovel for 25 years of service. She was a deacon and treasurer of the Congregational Church in Edgecomb where she helped with many church suppers. Edith was an avid knitter and could sew anything from sails for a boat to square dance clothing with shirts that matched. She taught classes for the Power Squadron at the Wiscasset Yacht Club. She loved gardening and camping which she did with her family and her great-granddaughter.

Edith was predeceased by her husband, Philip T. Chaney on March 28, 2009.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Colby and her husband Jed Colby of Edgecomb and Gail Woodruff and her husband Michael Woodruff of Edgecomb who lived with Edith for many years; her brother in law, Kenneth P. Chaney of Alna; grandchildren, Stacy Colby Barnes, Matthew House, Jeb Eben Colby and his wife Tory Ann; four great-grandchildren, Catilyn, Sophie, Susan and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 15 at the Edgecomb Congregational Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
