Edwin F. Hussa Jr., 91, of Queensbury, New York, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully on Oct. 20, 2014.

Born December 17, 1922, in Jersey City, New Jersey, he was the only son of Edwin F. Hussa Sr. and Clara Ward Hussa. He graduated from Summit High School in New Jersey and attended MIT and Lehigh University before entering the Army during World War II. He served in Europe and occupied Japan before being discharged as a First Lieutenant.

He continued to serve in the reserves until the early 1950s, completing his engineering degree at Drexel University in the evenings under the GI bill. Ted, as he was known, worked as an engineer for GE for 37 years, first in Philadelphia and then Chicago before retiring to Maine.

Just before entering the service, Ted married the love of his life, Carol Painter on May 31, 1943, at the Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Presbyterian Chapel. The two met and fell in love over many happy summers spent at their families' homes on MacMahan Island, Maine. He was a loving and devoted husband throughout their 71 years of marriage.

Ted had a great love of trains, and he compiled a large library on the subject. His fine baritone was in great demand as a soloist, and he added his voice to barbershop quartets. He did daily crosswords and volunteered at libraries in Wiscasset and Brunswick during his retirement years. He and Carol enjoyed traveling and spending winters on St. Simons Island in Georgia. They moved to Queensbury five years ago to be near family.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Suzanne Hussa Gilland.

He is survived by his wife, and his three children, Diana Hussa and husband Joel Lowenthal of Haverford, Pennsylvania, Edwin F. (Rick) Hussa III and wife Sarah of Queensbury, New York, and Gordon S. Hussa and wife Kathy of Hickory Hills, Illinois. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Caroline Lowenthal (Sam Ribnick) of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Matthew Lowenthal of Haverford, Pennsylvania, Emily H. (Scott) Froeschl of Salem, Massachusetts, Benjamin (Christie) Hussa of Ambler, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Hussa (Zach Peters) of Jackson, Mississippi, and Michael Hussa of Chicago, Illinois; and six great-grandchildren: Anson and Gus Froeschl, Kate, Charlie and Elizabeth Hussa, and Leo Ribnick.

Services and burial will be private and for the family.

Anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the charity or library of one's choice.
