Elizabeth K. Saudek, who spent summers in Boothbay Harbor for 55 years, died August 24 at the age of 102.

Saudek was born in Dusseldorf, Germany in 1910 and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pa.  She graduated from Wellesley College in 1932.  She and her husband, Robert Saudek, lived in Bronxville, N.Y. for 43 years, and then Washington, D.C. After her husband died in 1997, Saudek moved to a retirement home in Bedford, Mass.

In 1963, after renting cottages in the Boothbay area for several years, the couple bought a home on hospital point in Boothbay Harbor where she and her growing family have spent 50 summers.  The Saudeks were active members of the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and the Juniper Point Community Association for many years.

Many of their happiest times were spent with their family in Boothbay and sailing the waters of Maine. Almost 50 members of the Saudek family continue to enjoy the family house on hospital point.

Saudek was active in many community organizations in Bronxville, N.Y. where she spent most of her adult years, including serving on the Boards of the League of Women Voters, the Bronxville School PTA, and Planned Parenthood, being a member of the Nondescript Club and Little Forum, and tutoring at the East Harlem Tutorial Program.

Saudek is survived by four children, Richard H. Saudek of Montpelier, Vt., Robert E. Saudek of Atlanta and Sawyers Island, Mary Saudek Jaffee of Boston, Mass., and Stephen L. Saudek of Lexington, Mass.  Mrs. Saudek was predeceased by her son, Christopher D. Saudek of Baltimore and Southport Island.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

After decades of involvement in the arts, the Saudeks created a scholarship fund at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville that contributes to the tuition of promising performing arts students.   Contributions in honor of Elizabeth Saudek may be made to the “Robert and Elizabeth Saudek Scholarship” and mailed to: Sarah Lawrence College, Attention:  Robert and Elizabeth Saudek Scholarship, One Mead Way, Bronxville, N.Y. 10708.
