Eunice M. Adams

Eunice M. Adams, formerly of Wiscasset, died Oct. 26, 2014 at the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Laplata, Maryland.

Eunice was born Aug. 10, 1918 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the daughter of Alfred and Ruth (Tripp) Nerbonne.

She graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1937. She married Byron A. Adams in Wiscasset, Oct. 11, 1940. She and her husband owned and operated a variety store in Wiscasset from 1956 to 1962.

She was a former tax collector for the town of Wiscasset. Eunice worked for the Lincoln County Register of Deeds from 1962 until 1970 when she was elected to the first of four, four year terms as Register of Deeds, retiring in 1986.

She was a past president of the Maine Register of Deeds Association; past matron and life member of Garrison Hill Chapter of Order of Eastern Star; a member of the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset and its Organ Society; a charter member of the Wiscasset Yacht Club; a member of the Town and Lincoln County Republican Committees; and a member of the Wiscasset Senior Center. She was also the first woman corporator of the Gardiner Savings Institution.

After retirement, she spent many winters in St. Cloud, Florida. She enjoyed winters in Florida; traveling with her sister “Bud” including visits to her son in Hawaii; lunches at the senior center; family gatherings; watching her Red Sox; working cross word puzzles; and, before poor eye sight prohibited it, she was an avid knitter.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Byron in 1994; a son, Wayne in 2001; a grandson, Matthew in 2012; and three sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by a son Neal and wife Shirley of Indian Head, Maryland; a daughter-in-law Sandra of Wiscasset; three grandchildren, Clay, Nicole, and Andrew; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 at the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset. Burial will follow at Old Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, 28 High Street, Wiscasset, ME 04578.
