Evening lantern tour at Colonial Pemaquid

Sun, 07/12/2015 - 3:15pm

Step into the shadows of history on Saturday, July 11, at 8:30 p.m. when the staff of Colonial Pemaquid assisted by The Friends of Colonial Pemaquid will lead the first evening lantern walk of the season. Led by the park manager, guests will be able to see the various layers of history on display at the site.

In addition to learning about the fortresses that once protected Pemaquid Harbor and touring the extensive archaeological ruins, the event will include meeting some of the village inhabitants and being challenged by an 18th century soldier on night watch at Fort William Henry. The event is free to all. (Rain date is July 12.)

Visitors are encouraged to return to Colonial Pemaquid on Monday, July 13, at 7:30 p.m. for the Monday evening lecture, “Geological Variations in Maine During the Past 10,000 Years” by Maine Educator David Cook.

The lecture will take place at the Contented Sole Restaurant adjacent to the museum. Both events are sponsored by the Friends of Colonial Pemaquid, the valuable support arm of the State Historic Site that works to make history come alive. New members are always welcome, and membership applications are available at all events.

Colonial Pemaquid is located off Route 130, approximately 12 miles south of Route 1 and 3 miles north of the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse. From Route 130 South, in New Harbor, turn right onto Huddle Road and follow signs to Colonial Pemaquid. From Route 32 South, turn left onto Route 130 and then immediately right onto Snowball Hill Road, following signs to Colonial Pemaquid.
