Family fun at Wiscasset library and Castle Tucker July 26

Sun, 07/23/2017 - 8:45am

Join Historic New England’s Julia Einstein and Hope Mowry on Wednesday, July 26 for a morning of reading books and special activities based on the Wiscasset Public Library’s Summer Vacation reading theme, “Build a Better World,” with special emphasis on buildings and architecture. The program will combine story time with summertime games to introduce children aged 5-12 to ideas about New England’s history. We’ll get creative with the book, “The Town That Got Out of Town,” by author Robert Priest.

The Wiscasset Library is located at 21 High Street in Wiscasset, just a block away from Castle Tucker. The program begins at 10:30 a.m.. Admission is free.

Family Day: Lawn games and House tours, noon to 2 p.m.

Spend a day on the grand lawn of Historic New England’s Castle Tucker.  Take a tour of the house designed especially for families, play games, join in the sport of “lawn tennis,” read, and imagine what it was like to live in Victorian times.  Families are invited to pack a picnic and enjoy a summer day much like Mollie and Richard Tucker and their five children did in the mid – late nineteenth century.

Historic New England youth programs make history fun for even the youngest child. For more information, contact Julia Einstein, education coordinator, at 207-384-2454 x2 or MaineEd@historicnewengland.org.
