Social Security and Medicare are two of the most important pieces of legislation for seniors 50+ and without longterm solutions they can be in jeopardy but they are not the only legislative issues that affect seniors in the Midcoast. To discuss the impact of federal legislation, Teague Morris, outreach director for Senator King, Bethany K. Beausang, district representative and counsel for Congresswoman Chellie Pingree and  Kate Simson, state office representative for Senator Collins (Cumberland and Sagadahoc counties) will be the featured speakers at the Jan. 17, AARP Coffee and Conversation.

Morris focuses on senior, veteran and low-income policy issues and constituencies. He’s a former longterm care social worker who previously worked with Spectrum Generations, Central Maine’s Area Agency on Aging. Teague will share highlights of the Senator’s legislative accomplishments and priorities on behalf of Maine seniors. Beausang focuses on issues relating to economic development, small businesses, the budget and taxes, seniors, and health care. Previously, she worked on the Washington, D.C. staff of Representative Tom Allen as senior legislative assistant for health care issues and practiced law in the health care and legislative practice groups at the firm, Preti Flaherty in Maine. Beausang has been a member of Congresswoman Pingree’s staff since 2011.

The Coffee & Conversation will take place at the Coastal Landing Retirement community in Brunswick, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jan. 17, at 142 Neptune Drive (Old Navy Base) in their Community Room and all are welcome whether or not they are members of AARP. As always, coffee and cookies will be compliments of AARP.

Coffee, cookies and conversation takes place the third Wednesday of every month. AARP, a non partisan, nonprofit organization serving 50+ adults and their families has over 230,000 members in Maine and believes that it is important for all in the Midcoast to have access to good information so that they can make informed decisions.
