Feed Our Scholars thankful for support and Zumba

Wiscasset Feed Our Scholars would like to extend a hearty thank you to all who took part in the spaghetti supper/silent auction event at St. Philip’s Church on April 5. Enough money, $2,500, to feed 10 children during the 2014-2015 school year was raised. Without all the donors, the workers, the eaters, and the bidders, this would not have been possible.

A hearty welcome and thanks go, also, to D. M. Russell, Plumbing, Heating and Electric of Bristol, and E. Davies Allan, heavy construction contractor, of Westport Island, who have become business sponsors of Feed Our Scholars. Need some work done? Seek out these businesses. They support the area’s food insecure children; they deserve our support.

Big buckets of gratitude go, also, to the Wiscasset Female Charitable Society, the Wiscasset Middle School Jumpstart Our Youth group/Unity Foundation, the Huntoon Hill Grange, and the Bank of Maine Charitable Foundation, as well as the Elizabeth Ann Leach Charitable Fund. Without their contributions, far fewer hungry Wiscasset, Westport and Alna children would be able to eat on weekends.

Now, after eating all the spaghetti, not to mention the Easter and Passover feasts, it’s time for a little exercise. Local Zumba instructor Debbie Speed has offered to run a Zumbathon, with all proceeds being donated to Feed Our Scholars.

On Saturday, May 10, in the Wiscasset High School gym, from 2 to 4 p.m., Debbie and some of her fellow area Zumba instructors will be helping us all shake, shimmy, bounce, and dance our way to good health. For $10 per adult, $15 per family, people can get their groove on.

If there are other things on the schedule, or two hours of exercise sounds like a bit much, one doesn't have to stay for the whole time. Come in any time between 2 and 4 p.m.; leave any time. Just come, have fun, feel energized, and feel good about helping food insecure kids.
