Finish your high school equivalency diploma now

Thu, 10/30/2014 - 12:00pm

If you passed at least one GED test, you have until the end of this year to combine existing GED scores with HiSet scores to achieve your high school equivalency diploma. Maine will combine prior GED scores with HiSET only until the end of this year.

Once 2015 rolls around, you’ll have to start the process from start to finish with HiSET. Don’t lose what you have already worked so hard to achieve.

Adults who have taken and passed one or more GED tests can finish taking the remaining subject tests with the HiSET before Dec. 15, 2014.

The HiSET exam covers the same academic content areas as the GED and is offered at no cost to the test-taker. Passing the HiSET exam will earn a High School Equivalency Diploma.

The HiSET consists of the same five subtests as the GED exam: Language Arts Reading, Language Arts Writing, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics.

If you have been considering earning a high school equivalency diploma, now would also be a good time to begin.

Maine currently still offers HiSET paper based testing in the above mentioned five test subject areas, however that may be changing in the near future.

Maine will be transitioning to computer based testing, and HiSET is in the process of revising the test.

While the HiSET exam is currently much the same as the previous GED subject tests, it will be changing over the next few years.

There's still time, so come to the Adult Ed Learning Center and prepare to finish testing. The Learning Center is available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Call Adult Ed at 207-633-3224 or email boothbayae@gwi.net if you have questions or want more information.
