Frederick J. Hughes died Aug. 14, 2015. He was born in Ireland to Helen and James Hughes on Feb. 19, 1942.

Fred was a world traveler and met his wife Margaret (Hilda-Meghan) on a ship in Australia. They married and had two children, Donna Hughes and Timothy Hughes.

After arriving in America during the blizzard of 1978, Fred and Meghan settled in Boothbay Harbor, where they ran the Clipper Inn for many years.

They then moved to Massachusetts, New York, Missouri, and finally back to England.

Fred was well known for his gentle soul and willingness to give a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He will be deeply missed by friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Meghan of Frogmore, England; his daughter Donna Hughes of Licking, Missouri; his son Timothy Hughes and daughter-in-law Karyn Hughes of Goshen, New York; grandchildren, Kristi Schlag, Joshua Bradeen, Catherine Hughes and Brendan Hughes; and his great-granddaughter, Zoe Momphard.

Fred was predeceased by his great grandson Caleb Momphard. 

Fred will be laid to rest in Ireland. In memory of the true spirit that was Fred, please speak gently to those around you and please lend a hand any chance you get, to someone who could use it.
