Gary A. Tilton

Gary Alan Tilton, 50, of Boothbay Harbor, died June 29, 2015.

He was born Dec. 26, 1964 in Boothbay Harbor to C. Alan and Janet (Barter) Tilton.

Gary graduated from Boothbay Region High School in 1983. He received an associate degree from Kennebec Valley Technical College and went on to become a master electrician by trade. He worked for the Thomaston and Warren State Prisons for 18 years. He then became an insurance agent and worked for the family insurance agency for the next 10 years.

Gary was a Mason for 22 years and was also a member of the Boothbay Region Lions Club. He was a former captain of the Washington Fire Department and a captain of the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department for the past seven years. He previously served on the school district board of trustees, and was a member of Rebuilding Together.

He enjoyed ice and open water fishing. He was very good with his hands and loved tinkering and fixing things. Gary enjoyed researching local history and collected postcards and rare Tiltons Dairy bottles. When he wasn’t working, he liked going to Moosehead Lake to spend time at his aunt and uncle’s camp.

Gary was predeceased by his mother, Janet; his maternal and paternal grandparents, and a golden retriever, Jenny.

He is survived by his son, Matthew Tilton and his girlfriend Brittany Dickinson of Boothbay; father, C. Alan Tilton and stepmother Mary Tilton of Boothbay Harbor; brother, Glenn Tilton and his wife Lisa of Boothbay Harbor; grandson, Myles Tilton of Boothbay; nieces, Elizabeth Tilton of Boothbay Harbor and Jamie Tilton of Port Aransas, Texas; nephew, Jason Tilton of Patuxent River, Maryland; pet Maine coon cat, Wilma, of Boothbay Harbor; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 10 at the American Legion Hall, 25 Industrial Park Road, Boothbay.
