Geoffrey J. Herrmann, 76, died peacefully on June 9, 2014 at his home in Boothbay.

Born in Berlin, Germany, on May 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Eric and Ruth (Fest) Herrmann. He first arrived in the United States as a displaced person when he was 11 years old. He attended and graduated from Weehawken High School in New Jersey. After graduating from high school, Jeff joined the United States Air Force where he served for four years. Upon returning home from service he married and started a family. He also began his career with Western Electric. His career spanned over 25 years and many changes in ownership from Western Bell, to Ma Bell, AT&T, and Verizon from which he finally retired in the 1988.

In his retirement, Jeff cared for his mother and tried to make sure his immediate and extended family were well cared for. He dabbled in real estate investments in Maine and Massachusetts on and off for many years. He loved to tinker and enjoyed reading Car and Driver and Popular Mechanics magazines, always looking to try and find the best of everything. He was very mechanical and enjoyed teaching his children how to care for their cars and appliances. He enjoyed fishing for flounder and fluke on the Jersey Shore and Block Island.

He was loving, kind, generous, and a loyal friend. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all that knew and loved him.

He is survived by his companion, Jodi Antinelli of Boothbay; children, Julia Cates and her husband Tom of Acton, Mass., Andrew Herrmann of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Tanja Fagan and her husband Kevin of Richland, Mich.; grandchildren, Alex, Serena, Connor, Liam and Miles; brother, Arvid Herrmann and his wife Connie; sister, Isa Irvin; and nieces and nephews, Benjamin Irvin, Erik Herrmann and Anjanette Burns
