‘He will kill me if I tell you’

    A Wiscasset man has been charged with aggravated domestic assault after he allegedly choked a woman in Edgecomb.

    Michael Burns, 31, of Wiscasset, was arrested Thursday, Nov. 6 by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Class B aggravated domestic assault.

    At approximately 1 a.m. Nov. 6, Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies Jared Mitkus and Justin Drake responded to a call from a woman who said her friend had been the victim of domestic abuse.

    Mitkus responded to an address off River Road in Edgecomb after the friend called police. Upon arrival, according to Mitkus' arrest report, Burns exited a camper parked on the property and was directed to talk to Drake while Mitkus went inside to talk to the alleged victim.

    Mitkus wrote that the woman's left eye was bleeding and she allegedly said that nothing had happened, but after Mitkus explained what he saw, the she allegedly said, “He will kill me if I tell you.”

    The woman then told Mitkus that the fight started when the she and Burns began arguing over their living conditions and relationship. At one point, Burns is alleged to have called her a derogatory name and grabbed her throat.

    At one point she allegedly lost her breath while Burns was allegedly choking her, but did not report losing consciousness. Mitkus wrote that he observed the marks on her neck and photographed the injuries.

    When Mitkus asked Burns what happened, Burns allegedly said the victim fell. Mitkus reported that he saw dried blood on Burns' knuckle and arrested him shortly after.

    Burns was held on $5,000 secured bail at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. He was also court-ordered not to have any contact with the victim.

    Burns has been scheduled to appear in Lincoln County Superior Court Jan. 29. Aggravated Domestic Assault is a Class B crime, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine.
