Helga I. McEachern of Punta Gorda, Florida and a longtime summer visitor to Boothbay Harbor, died April 11, 2017.

She was born March 13, 1938 in Berlin, Germany, the beloved daughter of Lieselotte and Fritz Kretzschmar.

She lived in Bath, Maine for many years and worked at Sampson's Supermarket, and later moved to Westport Island. Helga proudly became a U.S. Citizen in 1988. She and her husband moved to Punta Gorda, Florida in 1995, spending many happy summers in Boothbay Harbor. She loved working in ladies apparel, most recently at Anthony's, and enjoyed tole painting, gardening, shopping and traveling.

Survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Robert McEachern; sister and brother-in-law, Gisela and Rudi Gauger; sister-in-law, Patricia Laycox; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Pratt) and Daniel Smith of PR; Jamie (McEachern) and Barry Gathwright of Missouri; grandchildren, Nick and Shaun Mains; Justin, Westley and Amber Gathwright.
