Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry

Mon, 03/19/2018 - 8:30am

St. Philip’s Help Yourself Shelf Food Pantry, located at 12 Hodge St. in Wiscasset, is announcing that the pantry will be held not on its usual Thursday day and time during the last week of March, but on that Tuesday, March 27, instead.  Pantry time will be the same, with sign-in prior to 5 p.m., and selection time beginning at 5.

The last week of March is Holy Week in the liturgical calendar with a Maundy Thursday service at 6 p.m. on the 29th, a Good Friday service on the 30th, again at 6 p.m., then Easter service on Sunday, April 1, at 9 a.m. Any and all that would like to attend any of the services mentioned are heartily welcome.

Help Yourself Shelf would like to take this opportunity to thank The First for its recent contribution to the pantry, as well as to the Town of Wiscasset for its continued support. To all the individuals who contribute items as well as funds, HYS clients and volunteers extend our gratitude.

To all who have donated their bottles at the transfer station, thank you.  Your donations have been dedicated specifically for the monthly dispersal of personal care products to those who take part in HYS provisions.

Thanks to donations of dog and cat foods by Ames Supply and the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, the Shelf now is able to help feed families’ furry members. For many seniors, their pets are what helps make life bearable, but Social Security doesn’t allow for purchasing enough human food, let alone pet food, to get through the month.

The fresh rescued items from Shaw’s of Wiscasset, and Hannaford of Boothbay and Damariscotta continue to make it possible for food insecure families to have healthier diets because of the donated fresh produce and meats.  Without those weekly infusions, the Shelf offerings would be meager in amount and variety.
